Marker and Flower Policy
Thank you for choosing Kern River Valley Cemetery to inter your loved one. We welcome you to make all arrangements for interment services at our office at 8441 Burlando Road, Wofford Heights, California 93285. We should have a week notice before a burial to process the necessary paperwork and the cremains should be delivered to the cemetery the day before the burial.
We are open for services every day from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday services are offered at an increased rate of $200.00. Sunday services will be an additional $450.00. Saturday and Sunday services start at 11:00 a.m. every ½ hour after 11:00 a.m. will be charged an additional $50.00. The KRVCD will be closed on legal holidays:
New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas
Two forms (2) are especially necessary for interment by KRVCD staff, without these forms, we cannot bury your loved one:
Burial Permit—Permit of disposition of human remains
Internment Order—Interment details signed by the authorized family member
We charge a fifteen percent non-resident fee: if any person was not a resident taxpayer of the district at the time of their death. Please see Health & Safety Code, Park 4 Chapter 1, 8993.
We offer both a small and a large poly vault. Many families want to place an urn inside the vault, which we are happy to accommodate. The urn needs to be smaller than 10" wide x 9" long x 5" high, the size of our largest poly vault.
The KRVCD Staff will ensure the opening or closing of any grave, as well as any placement of any marker. In addition, plants, trees, ornaments, or devices will only be placed by a KRVCD staff member.
Markers
The selection of a unique gravestone or marker for your loved one along with the placement of flowers is a time-honored tradition, an expression of love and remembrance to your loved one. When ordering a memorial marker for your loved one’s grave, please keep in mind the following district policy at the Kern River Valley Cemetery District. We respectfully insist that these regulations be honored:
-
Markers are paid for and the responsibility of the immediate family, which can be purchased in granite, marble or bronze markers with square smooth edges. The family is responsible for the care, maintenance, and replacement of the marker, unless the marker is damaged by KRVCD staff.
-
A final proof of the marker shall be approved by the KRVCD Manager, before purchasing the product
-
KRVCD only has flat markers, which should be 12” x 24” x 3 for single or double markers and at least three (3) inches thick
-
Raised lettering needs to be under 1/8 inch thick, when lettering is raised above this height, the marker can be damaged by the mowing or maintenance equipment.
-
Markers will be placed by the KRVCD and will be set in a concrete border to keep them from being damaged by cemetery equipment. We will also include a standard cup holder(s), when setting the gravestone, depending on a single or double gravestone. If the cup needs to be replaced, you can purchase a new cup from KRVCD.
-
Veteran markers and bronze marker thickness will be acceptable as manufactured
-
If a marker is removed, a district removal fee or $ __________ and a replacement marker fee of $_________ will be charged
-
Items not allowed to be placed on the grave include, but are not limited to the following: glass, wire, curbing, decorative rocks, sand, gravel, cement or plaster, or metal. These items may be removed at the sole discretion of the KRVCD. These items are a hazard to expensive maintenance equipment. The Rose Garden is made of stone so is an exception to this policy.
Flowers
Flowers must be cared for to create an appropriate remembrance. Flowers are a beautiful memorialization, but if they are not correctly maintained, they can look unsightly and create problems with the cemetery’s equipment. Every reasonable effort will be made to respect the flowers placed on graves.
-
Fresh or artificial flowers may be placed in the vases at the base of the marker
-
Fresh cut flowers will be removed after one week or as they become unsightly
-
Discolored or faded artificial flowers which have become unsuitable for further use will be disposed of. KRVCD is NOT responsible for stolen or misplaced flowers
-
